Paris Magazine

As a requirement to complete my art history degree, as well as fulfill all requirements for the Eckardt Scholars Honors Program, I needed to complete a capstone project or thesis. I knew I wished to create something visual, but that it also needed to display my art history skills. I was incredibly inspired by my J-Term study abroad program and wanted for the project to also center around that experience from January 2023.

I chose to write four essays on art historical content that I encountered on my adventure. I then created a magazine layout to showcases these essays, along with all the photos I took.

I chose to write the four essays on various museums and the works and stories I encountered within. These include Monet’s Water Lilies at the Musée de l’Orangerie, Suzanne Valadon’s work and my experience at the Musée de Montmartre, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent and his fashion career, and my experience at the Musée Picasso-Paris where instead of Picasso, I enjoyed the work of contemporary artist, Farah Atassi.

I had never done any formal magazine design prior and had to teach myself how to create appealing design, print the booklet and hand-stitch the seam, as I wished to provide a physical copy of the magazine at the time of my presentation. The prior work I had done for the exhibition catalog introduced me to the Issuu platform which allowed me to upload my document to view as a digital magazine.
